In 2008, CAN’s VTC division formed an alliance with CRY and Parzor organisations. CRY Mumbai branch through its store there is marketing two specially designed products for them by the disabled members at our Vocational Training Centres. These include a Painted Glass Lantern and a Painted Vaccume Tight Glass Gel Candle. CRY has been receiving a good feedback on these items and we hope that our association with them will continue and grow with time.
Our other tie up has been with the Parzor organisation, which is a Parsi organisation that promotes handicrafts and dying art forms. They are also helping CAN by marketing our products and are using the medium of glass paintings to make parsi symbols and art forms. This is proving to be a good learning experience for the members of our Centres.
CAN CRAFTS has been receiving a good response at the various stalls and through the website. We just sent some glass items to the Kingdom of Bahrain, an order that was placed with us through our website
Positive Effects of Our Work
Three young members of the Dakshinpuri slum, where CAN runs a Centre were encouraged and helped by CAN to join a Awareness Training Workshop of three weeks duration organised by VOL organisation in Delhi. Here they received training on disability and child rights issues and then had to perform street plays in and around Delhi to raise awareness amongst the general public about these issues.
CAN continues with its work of providing information and guidance on disability matters to people who call for help. This year also CAN dealt with many such calls and provided assistance to people in need of services. CAN staff dealt with referral cases as well, who were taken to the Spinal Injuries Hospital for diagnosis and treatment.
We have also received financial support from the TARA Trust in Goa to get Dilshad, a boy at our pre-primary school in Dakshinpuri slum trained to gain basic mobility and become self-dependent for basic day to day activities. Dilshad is approximately 4 years old and has a MR (mental retardation) condition with problems of coordination and speech.
